Gregory Lawrence earned his Bachelor of Music in Performance (violin) at San Diego State University. He then continued his post graduate studies with Eudice Shapiro at the University of Southern California, and later with Mr. Noumi Fischer at his studio in Glendale.
Greg’s professional performing career has afforded him a wonderfully varied background in many different musical genres. He has worked with the San Diego Symphony, the San Diego Opera, the San Diego Chamber Orchestra, Starlight Opera, and the San Diego Lyric Opera. Greg also worked three tours with the Montovani Orchestra. Greg has also worked with Orquesta de Baja in Tijuana, Mexico, as a violinist and subcontractor. Greg recently made his Italian debut performing Bottesini's 'Grand Duo Concertante' and other works at the 'Musica e Arte 2017' festival in Tolentino & Pollenza, Italy.
In January 2001, Greg founded the Cabrillo Chamber Orchestra (CCO), a professional 12-15 piece ensemble whose mission is to give his San Diego colleagues from all genres of music a pro orchestra with which to work as soloists and core musicians. Visit the CCO website at www.cco-sd.com to see & hear some samples of our work, including a concert featuring Frank Almond, Concertmaster of the Milwaukee Symphony.
Greg served as conductor for the Intermediate Orchestra & Chamber Ensemble of the San Diego Civic Youth Orchestra from September 2009 to June 2011 and served as Associate Conductor of 'All About Music San Diego' Youth Orchestra in 2014. He also served as violin coach for North Coast Strings from 2008 - 2015.
In addition to performing, Greg also maintains a private teaching studio 30+ students.
